The POWER of Facebook

Ok so I might be a Millennial which means I basically grew up with Facebook. My entire ‘coming of age’ was published on social media (you’re welcome to all you lucky folks who got to see my awkward stage in real time). While I was growing up, so was Facebook. Facebook was constantly changing and evolving. Kinks were being worked out and small issues were always being addressed. I was one of many users who was outraged every few months when something changed on Facebook. "What! They can’t just move the Home button to the other side, who do they think they are?” These were serious issues 7 years ago.

As I sit here blasting Annie Lennox (after her Grammy performance, wow!) I have to hand it to FB, the kinks have certainly been worked out and it has become an incredibly powerful business tool. Designing different Facebook Ads, Contests, Fan Building Campaigns, etc has proven to not only be wildly successful when it comes to driving website traffic and brand engagement, but it is also user friendly! I have new found respect for Facebook and how far it has come. Every business needs to be present and active on Facebook!

**My favorite new trick for using Facebook as a marketing tool is the Custom Audience Pixel for your Website. This allows Facebook to create a specific audience for an Ad based on people who visited your website and took certain actions. For example you can capture the people you went to your site but did not purchase anything, or did not sign up for your newsletter, or only made it to your home page. You set the parameters and Facebook does the rest! LOVE IT!**

As my dear friend and associate Deb said in the previous blog, life really is all about the tiny epiphanies. After she came up with the concept for our blog and named it Tiny Epiphanies, I got thinking about the moments in my daily life (because if you pay attention they really do happen all the time) that hold power. They hold the power to change or strengthen a mood, an idea, a belief, a question…

So here it is, the epiphany of the past week that had an impact on who I am.

The most important moment of the past week revolves around family. Mainly my sweet 2 year old niece and her complete happiness. Genuine BLISS. She has the simple things in life all figured out- food, a place to sleep, something to entertain herself with, and people to love her. And that is all she needs. I am learning to take a page from her book and live simply. I know that I feel better, work better, and engage better when the distractions of daily craziness are kept at bay or at least acknowledged and then let pass. I want to be like a 2 year old, find what I love and DO IT!

Now that you have a pretty good idea of what makes me tick, I should probably introduce myself. I’m Tessa. I am the Content Director at ODELLA JAMES and I love it!! What I do doesn’t even feel like ‘work’. It is fun, fast-paced and always keeps me on my toes. When i’m not working I can be found with my friends and family, eating good food, listening to good music, or enjoying the outdoors.

Check back for more Tiny Epiphanies :)

Welcome to our blog - which we have titled Tiny Epiphanies!! Don't you just love them - those small yet profound moments when a simple thought can completely change your perspective!! This is a space for the OJ team to share, explore and inspire. We want to convey who we are by sharing what we love, what inspires us or the tiny epiphanies we have!

Firstly - I will introduce myself, Deb Schlichting owner and crazy orchestrator behind this whole thing called Odella James. Many times, I am asked where the name Odella James came from, the answer is sweet, and as much as it sweet, it's also true! My grandmother was Odella, she was earthy, sweet, silly and creative, and she was the person to give me my first tiny epiphany! She showed me that I could CREATE whatever I imagined. She was a quilter, gave me my first sewing machine, a plethora of amazing textiles and the confidence to just go for it, even if I didn't really know what I was doing. The realization that as long as you have ideas and solutions to make those ideas a reality - you can use your creativity to explore endless possibilities! The second part JAMES, is the masculine, the strength and is also a family name. My husband, his father, my father's father and so it goes on and on are all JAMES. I think together Odella James has a strong yet delicate presence, and to me it has depth. I am so proud to put my passions into my work and my work be a reflection of who I am.

With introductions out of the way, I hope you will check out our blog now and again, the whole team will contribute so you can get to know all of us! We are an eclectic mix with a full spectrum of interests! We hope to inspire you, share knowledge, tips and tricks, trends and of course MAKE YOU LAUGH!

Laugh On -
